cruising down the road.
Hey I'm flying,
I'm flying in my super Ford
The needle's on the line
but you know she'll always give a little more.
Hey I'm tuning
in the radio.
Nothing doing,
I'm doing nothing on the road.
The tires hold the curves
but you know she'll always hug a little more.
Hey I'm burning,
burning up the gas.
Hey I'm moving,
I'm moving out and getting past.
My tail is on the line
but I know that all I've got to do is ask.

Cruising
A cruising song. The music is fairly straightforward 12 bar blues rock and roll with a moving base line and a short, distinct break, similar to a thousand Memphis rock and roll songs. The lyrics convey the feelings I had while driving my Mustang GT's. I was fast and free! These cars would always give just a little more in power and handling. I had bought a brand new red high output 5.0L manual transmission in 1985 and a brand new black one in 1986 and a used gray 1989 automatic in 1990. Being single with a good, engineer's level salary, I was able to buy these wonderful muscle cars. In those days I averaged at least one speeding ticket per year.

Using the old reel to reel tape deck, from time to time we would experiment with things like excessive tape echo and running half speed/double speed in order to make chipmunk voices. Here is a version of Cruising in which Bobby was experimenting with the drums. At chipmunk speed they sound like little high pitched bongos.
